Here are some tips to help you deep clean your carpet without chemicals:

  1. Start by vacuuming your carpets thoroughly to remove any loose dirt and debris. Sweeping with a hard bristle broom and a dustpan can provide excellent results especially in high traffic areas of the home.
  2. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar with 3 parts of cold water in a spray bottle. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to the mixture to give it a pleasant scent.
  3. Spray the solution onto the carpet, making sure to cover the entire area evenly. Allow the solution to sit on the carpet for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Use a clean, damp cloth or sponge to work the solution into the carpet fibres. Be sure to apply some pressure to really work the solution deep into the fibres. Depending on the stain you’re trying to remove, avoid rubbing too hard and damaging the carpet. This method demands hard work and is quite time-consuming but it delivers the best results.
  5. For really tough stains, baking soda will come to the rescue. It’s incredible how much baking soda can accomplish on its own. Simply cover the spill with baking soda and set it aside for an hour if you’re treating it immediately after an accidental spill. The stain will be absorbed without the need for any additional cleaning – just be sure to properly vacuum the area once it has been applied. Another method to consider on tough stains from e.g. white wine is using carbonated water. Apply some carbonated water on the spot, leave this to soak into the carpet.
  6. Finally, use a spray bottle or a clean sponge to rinse the carpet thoroughly with clean water. Or for more efficiency, steam your carpets with a domestic steamer or handheld steam cleaner. Heat steaming is a very effective way to remove dirt and grime from your carpets, as well as germs and bacteria at the same time with heat.
  7. Use a clean towel to blot the carpet dry. You may need to use multiple towels to remove all of the moisture. If you’re trying to restore the carpet condition of high traffic areas while the carpet is damp, try to iron the surface of the carpet through the towel. After the carpet dries, fluffing these spots will be easier.
  8. Open windows or turn on fans to help the carpet dry more quickly.

By following these simple steps, you can deep clean your carpet without relying on harsh chemicals. Not only is this method more eco-friendly, but it’s also safer for your family and pets.
